“On our first meeting with Antony he said; “Your business will not get better because Rusko is cutting more and more clients. It will only get better when you know the numbers and you know how to work with them.”
So now we try to implement the ideas in the money course as much as possible because we know this is very important.
For example, before we started the money course we had no formula for pricing our salon services. Now we have a formula that is showing what the prices need to be in order to cover our overhead and make a profit.
The challenge for us was that when we used the formula to work out our prices it gave us a figure that meant we would have to increase the prices of our colour services to a level that we felt our clients would not pay.
So as a result we combined a price increase for our colour services along with using a less expensive colour product that delivers the same quality results but at a significantly lower price point.
So now we cover our overheads and make more profit, and the clients are just as happy!
Another thing I got from the course was ‘understanding profit’ and recognising that not everything in the till is ours, and instead we have to manage the money that passes through the business, and what’s left is the profit.
One of the things we have found especially helpful are the calculators and the rolling cash flow forecast in the course platform.
That is something that we use now, and it helps us to see where the money is coming in, and where it is going out, and where the problems might be. The calculators are very nicely made and they're really useful.
Finally, I remember once you were telling me about a conversation you’d had with Toni Mascolo, one of the brothers and founding partners of Toni & Guy and he said that;
“Being in business takes courage!”
And now I understand what is meant by that: Whether it’s courage to change your product supplier, or courage to increase your prices, or the courage to expand. All of these things take courage. Every single day you have to have courage and believe in yourself.”
But I think that as well as courage you have to have knowledge.
And this knowledge for us is coming from your courses. Otherwise, you're like a blind man going here and there, and hitting the wall.
The course is worth every penny for sure it's great, it's really great.
