– Case study

Anna Munnelly

“I’ve been hairdressing full-time since 2003 and running our family salon, established by my dad in 1962 since 2016. I took over ownership in 2021.

As soon as I heard about the Super Stylist course, I knew it was exactly what my team and salon needed, so I jumped on it straightaway.

Where it helped me most was in getting my team to shift their mindset and improve their productivity, especially around rebooking and retention. That alone has made a massive difference. In the past, we’d often rely on walk-ins. Previously, my team might come in on a Monday morning with only 10 bookings across five stylists, and by the end of the day, we’d somehow fill the columns. But that model just wasn’t sustainable, and it offered no certainty.

Now, we’ve completely shifted. We’re 100% bookings-based. We’ve gone from around 30% rebooking to over 60%, and that’s directly linked to what we’ve learned through the course.

The younger team members have dived in fully, while the more established stylists are doing it in bite-sized pieces. And that’s okay because even if they take two or three ideas and run with them, it’s still a win. It has been a challenge for me with them, but we’re finally getting to a point where most of them are setting rebooking goals every quarter, and with the nice rewards we offer, they’re starting to get the hang of it, they’re seeing the power of it.

We also talk a lot about the kind of work they don’t want to do, like blow-dries, and I’ve said, if you don’t want to do that stuff, focus on rebooking the work you do want, fill your column with mesh, balayage, or whatever it is. Because if you’ve got white space, you’ll get whatever walks in or calls up. So that mindset shift has been huge.

The most important shift has been around ownership: the team are finally seeing that if they’re quiet, they need to ask why, not just assume the salon will feed them work. They understand now that they have a responsibility to fill their own columns. The Super Stylist course has really helped me with that. When you think about it, the turnaround has been massive.

We’ve also seen growth in average bill value, thanks to better consultations and upselling. Some of the team are really motivated by that, by the numbers and the money. The great thing is that with the right numbers, we can now offer them more flexibility too. Most of my team are mums, so they love the idea of controlling their own schedules, as long as they’re hitting their targets.

From a management point of view, it’s helped me explain exactly what I’m looking for in terms of productivity and mindset. We’ve made it part of our regular training, weaving it into staff meetings and using the content in ways that suit our rhythm. For our new team members, it's now a requirement, we want them to go through it as part of their development from junior to stylist.

If you’re a salon owner thinking about it, I wouldn’t hesitate. It’s a no-brainer. As an investment in your people and their productivity, it’s incredibly valuable. And if you're an individual stylist wanting to grow, it’s the kind of course that will stay with you for life. Plus, the option to pay in instalments makes it very accessible.

It’s honestly one of the best online training tools I’ve come across. It’s such a good quality course, the content is clear, it’s very well laid out, and it's incredibly effective.”
